Music in black and white

After I started to do this project, I really liked the idea of it.  It required alot of thinking (for me anyway).  I guess depending on how a person interprets it, that may not be the case.  And I think, more than I enjoyed doing the project, I enjoyed seeing how other people interpreted it.

Library Cards

The book that this card goes in was called Chicago Letter.  I started working on this project very soon after the presidential election so when I saw the title of this book I immediately thought Barack Obama so I wanted to somehow incorporate him into the piece.  I decided that I just wanted to write out his president-elect victory speech.  Looking back on the project I wish I hadn’t written Obama on the card so that if years from now someone who weren’t familiar with his speech found the card they would have to do some research to figure out what the card is about.

The name of the book this card belongs in is Alternatives.  I wasn’t really sure what to do so I looked up the definition of the word alternative.  The definition I wrote on the card is one of the definitions I found.  I felt like it was a very blunt, black and white definition for the word, so I decided to split the card in half, black and white.

The book this card belongs in is called Through Their Eyes.  I decided to use different faces on the card because I wanted to make the point that the world looks different through each of those peoples’ eyes.

The book this card belongs in is called The Illusion of Power.  But for some strange reason I kept wanting to call the book The Power of Illusion and for that reason I wanted to do something that simulated an illusion for my card.  On this card I was hoping to do something similar to those hypnotic spiral circles that seem to move when you look at them.  I don’t really think the illusion thing worked out to well, but I do like how the card looks.

The name of this book is Laughing Out Loud.  And I assume because I’m living in the age of cell phones, I automatically thought of the popular text messaging phrase “lol” when I read the title of the book.  I think in this day in age, any student  who found that card in the book would understand exactly how the two correlate.

There’s not much too say about these sketches.  Their just quick sketches on my Diebenkorn photos.

I didn’t particularly enjoy taking these photos, although I do like the way some of them came out (the last 2 photos particularly).  I don’t rally think it was neccessary that we did this since we copied a Diebenkorn photo.  I think it would have been more neccessary if we had created our own works inspired by Diebenkorn.

Wood sculpture

wood-sculpture

I didn’t particularly enjoy these wood sculptures just because I’m not really a 3D kind of girl.  I posted this sculpture from my group because I feel like this one best conveys the instructions that we were given (I think it was make a sculpture with no open spaces).

Plexy Glass

This project was really random.  It was fun and I liked the way it turned out but after seeing what the other groups did I wish our group would have come up with something more creative.

When we first got this project, I didn’t think I would be into it.  But as we started doing it I started to enjoy it and  I really like how it turned out.

I really did not like doing this.  I’m pretty sure there was some point to it but at the time it seemed pointless and gave me hand cramps.

shapes in black w/ lines and bars

October 16, 2008

This project was okay.  I liked the look of the shapes alot better after I added the lines and bars but I still don’t understand what the point of the project was.
